“Staycationing” this year? Why not book an outdoor family photoshoot in your garden or your holiday cottage, oast house or hotel grounds?
Covid has inevitably led to a huge surge in bookings for holiday cottages in England and also to people choosing to simply book some time off to do “special things”, spending their well-earned holiday budget on some treats at home.
Never has it been a better time to book a family photoshoot and make this a year to remember, especially when people are getting together with family they won’t have seen for over a year.
My holiday photoshoots are just perfect for extended family gatherings. Make the most of the long summer days and the memories created when you pull together multi-generations of family.
How they work?
Holiday cottages, houses and oasts especially in Kent and Sussex tend to have beautiful grounds for us to photograph within. Or if we are photographing you at home and you don’t have a large garden we can visit the local park for a while.
I am experienced in handling large groups and children to achieve the perfect relaxed, but posed images ready to hang on your walls for years to come.
We’re not away for long – how much time would we need to allow?
During the summer months I often come during the early evening so it is not too late for children and still gives you plenty of time to enjoy your night. The shoot itself is a great way to the end the day, so put on some nice clothes, pour yourselves a drink and let me lead the way. I am usually with you up to about 2 hours.
If more than one family are holidaying together we discuss in advance the types of images you would like as individual families and those you would like together. I can capture the children playing together and with parent groups.
The images in this blog were mainly taken in the grounds of Finchcocks Oast and Merrieweathers House both in Mayfield, East Sussex.
It is ideal to book your photographer when you book your cottage or holiday home to ensure availability. We talk well in advance about the shots you would like to achieve and I send plenty of advice on the types of clothes to pack in your suitcase to ensure you all look fantastic together.
As the weather can be unpredictable it is useful to have a couple of days pencilled in. Ideally we will shoot towards the end of the day during the summer months where the light is softer and I keep closely in contact to plan the day ahead. I am also a specialist multi-award winning dog photographer so if you are planning on bringing your dog on your vacation I would not hesitate to include them in our shoot!
Wall art
If there is time I ideally plan with you to return to the holiday cottage before you leave so that you have an opportunity to view your images as a group on my large screen. I bring with me my wall art frame samples so that by the time you leave all family members have an opportunity to order something they love for their walls. Memories of your holiday will stay with you for much longer when they are remembered in print. If there isn’t time for this I arrange for your viewing to take place on Zoom.
